Escambia-Santa Rosa Bar Association to host Law Week 2019 May 13-19

PENSACOLA, Fla. – April 26, 2019 – The Escambia-Santa Rosa Bar Association (ESRBA) will host Law Week 2019 May 13 – 19. Law Week 2019, presented by McMahon and Hadder Insurance, will include a judicial reception, a luncheon, and a religious ceremony. The theme selected by the American Bar Association (ABA) for Law Day 2019, Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society, has been adopted for the week-long local commemoration. According to the ABA, “the theme asks us to examine two cornerstones of representative government and consider the role they have played in sustaining our society.” Law Day is held annually nationwide each to celebrate the role of law in our society and cultivate a deeper understanding of the rule of law.

The Judicial Reception, sponsored by the ESRBA’s Young Lawyers Division and Mike Chastain with Dex Imaging, will be held on Tuesday, May 14 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at V. Paul's Italian Ristorante, 29 Palafox Place in downtown Pensacola. The event will honor the local judiciary and provide an opportunity for judges, attorneys, and paralegals to mingle and network in an informal after-hours social setting. The cost, which includes heavy hors d’oeuvres and a wine/beer ticket, is $20 per person. A cash bar will also be available. Reservations are required by Friday, May 3 to esrba@esrba.com or 434-8135 extension 1.

The Law Week Luncheon, sponsored by Zarzaur Law, P.A., will be held on Friday, May 17 from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Pensacola Grand Hotel, 200 East Gregory Street. The luncheon will feature a panel discussion surrounding the Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society theme. Journalist, author, and television contributor Molly Barrows Vigodsky, editorial cartoonist and columnist Andy Marlette, and attorney Jim Green of Clark Partington will comprise the panel. The discussion will be moderated by attorney and former newspaper editor Charles Beall of Moore, Hill and Westmoreland, P.A.

This year’s Liberty Bell Award recipient will also be announced. The Liberty Bell Award is presented annually to recognize community service that has strengthened the American system of freedom under law and to accord public recognition to men and women, particularly non-lawyers, for outstanding service. Additionally, the Northwest Florida Paralegal Association will recognize the winner of its theme-related high school essay contest at the luncheon.

The cost for the luncheon is $25 per person. Reservations are required by Friday, May 3 to esrba@esrba.com or 434-8135 extension 1.

The Religious Ceremony will take place at St. Ann Catholic Church, 100 Daniel Drive in Gulf Breeze on Sunday, May 19. Area judges and ESRBA members will join in the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass.
