The University of West Florida’s Office of the General Counsel in Pensacola, Florida, is happy to announce that it is seeking a fulltime Assistant General Counsel (position# 125600), specializing in labor and employment law.  Reporting to the General Counsel of the University, the Assistant General Counsel provides legal support and guidance on a full range of higher education employment issues impacting the University of West Florida. This position provides legal support to address campus needs, and provides proactive legal services to various departments and units of the university with particular focus on labor and employment issues, advice on discipline, termination, and hiring.  Job duties also include reviewing legal documents including contracts, conducting legal research, and providing interpretations of statutes, regulations and policies  
 
The incumbent will also assist with public records requests, assist in compliance with legal and regulatory mandates, and remain current on developments in labor and employment law, higher education law, and other areas of specialty practice.  This position entails special emphasis in labor and employment law, but may include other areas depending on the qualifications and experience of the applicant.
 
Minimum qualifications for the position include a Law degree (L.L.B or J.D.) and must be a member of the Florida Bar.  
 
Preferred qualifications include employment law experience, with excellent legal research, writing and communication skills. Experience in a higher education environment in Florida or Florida state government; Chapter 119, Florida Statutes and FERPA.
 
Salary:  Up to $80,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
